In order to qualify as a 2018 Top Safety Pick, the IIHS requires “Good” ratings in multiple tests. It also requires a vehicle earn “Advanced” or “Superior” rating for front crash prevention. The NHTSA is the United States government’s National Traffic Safety Administration. The five star rating comes after completing meticulous collision and pre-collision tests.
