It’s been a while since we’ve written about Mazda Motorsports. We have some really exciting news to share with all of you! Olly Jarvis, the Number 77 Mazda RT24-P driver broke a long standing record at Daytona International Speedway! Keep reading to learn more! Qualification Rounds During the qualification rounds at Daytona International Speedway for the Rolex 24 at Daytona, Olly Jarvis went around the track faster than any other car in history! Jarvis earned the pole position and broke a 26 year old course record for the 3.56 mile road course. How amazing is that? Record Time Jarvis broke the record on his fourth lap with a time of 1:33:685. That broke the record of 1:33:875. He held that time to the end of session. Jonathan Bomarito is the driver for the number 55 Castrol Mazda RT24-P. His time was 1:34:212 which earned him fourth position. Pole Position Jarvis’ time made this the first overall pole position in Mazda Motorsport history at the Rolex 24 in Daytona. It was also the first pole position in IMSA for Jarvis, as well as for the Mazda RT24-P. Beginning forty years ago with a 1-2 finish for the Mazda RX-7 in the GTU class, Mazda has earned 22 class wins. Proud Achievement Here’s a quote from John Doonan, Director of Mazda Motorsports: “Everyone at Mazda is appreciative of IMSA to give us the chance to showcase our brand here in this championship. It’s been a good month. The Roar was good and today was good, but this weekend is what it’s all about and we hope that it can be a great end to what has been a good month. All that effort has resulted in Mazda’s first pole position at this race. We have been in touch with the Gurney family since we unofficially went under the track record at the Roar Before the 24, and we are really pleased to honor them with this track record.”

What is this? Could it be yet another award for a Mazda vehicle? Why yes, yes it is! Mazda recently announced that the 2019 Mazda CX-5 compact crossover earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s “Top Safety Pick+” classification, as long as the vehicle is equipped with specific headlights. This is the nonprofit institution’s highest rating. Beginning in 2013 Back in 2013, the Mazda CX-5 earn the Top Safety Pick. After that, from 2014 until now, it earned the Top Safety Pick+ designation. The 2019 Mazda CX-5 is one of approximately 30 automobiles to earn the Top Safety Pick+. The Insurance institute for Highway Safety has more rigorous criteria. It now requires better passenger-side protection rating in a small overlap front crash. The standard Smart City brake Support and specific LED headlights on the Mazda CX-5 helped earn the Top Safety Pick+ award. Rating To earn the Top Safety Pick+ award, a vehicle must acquire the highest rating of “Good” for 2019 in six crash tests. Eligible tires purchased at Beach Mazda include 24-month road hazard coverage. This means: 100% coverage the first year 50% coverage the second year, as well as Flat repair coverage up to $20 per occurrence The Tire Road Hazard Program is included with new tires sold by dealership participating in the Mazda Tire Center and is administered by Sonsio Management, Inc. What is Covered This program covers only the tires sold by a dealership participating in the Mazda Tire Center and listed clearly on the original purchase invoice. It is identified by the listed part number or SKU number, while installed on the vehicle identified by year, make and model on your original purchase receipt. This program is limited to the repair or replacement of tires damaged by a road hazard as described below. Term of Coverage This program covers eligible tires for a term of 24 months from the date on your original purchase invoice for the tires, or until any part of the tire tread that comes in contact with the road has a tread depth of 2/32” or less, whichever comes first. What is Road Hazard Damage? Road hazard damage occurs when a tire fails as a result of a puncture , bruise or impact break incurred during the course of normal driving on a road maintained by state or local authority. Nails, glass and potholes are the most common examples of a road hazard. No one likes to deal with those things, of course! What are the Benefits? This program provides reimbursement for the flat tire repair and/or tire replacement. It offers coverage up to the original purchase price of the tire or the replacement tire cost, whichever is less during the Coverage Term, when an eligible tire is damaged by a road hazard. Ground was recently broken on the new Mazda Toyota Manufacturing, U.S.A. Inc. plant in Huntsville, Alabama. Keep reading for all the exciting news Major Investment With a 1.6 billion investment from both companies, the new Mazda Toyota Manufacturing plant is expected to create at least 4,000 new jobs. This plant will also have the ability to build 300,000 vehicles a year. This will begin in 2021. For starters, the new manufacturing plant will build Toyota’s Corolla. Its new 2020 model was recently made public in California. The new plant will also build Mazda’s yet- to-be-named crossover vehicle. “We are proud to be here with Toyota, with whom we share the bond of pride in manufacturing,” said Kiyotaka Shobuda, Mazda’s senior managing executive officer. “We are proud to be breaking ground on a new ‘home’ here in Huntsville – a city that believes in the possibilities of technology and manufacturing, and has striven to realize mankind’s greatest dream.” In the News According to a recent press release: The alliance will assure competitiveness in manufacturing. This allows both automakers to respond quickly to market changes.
