The awards are not stopping! This time, the Mazda CX-9 has been named to Car and Driver magazine’s first annual 10-Best Trucks and SUVs list! more The Mazda CX-9 has been honored for its upscale design and engaging driving performance. It’s the last Mazda vehicle to go through a complete redesign. Engineers made it lightweight. They also included the efficient SKYACTIV™ Technology. Of course, they also includes Mazda’s ever-present KODO Soul of Motion design. New Features Among its most notable new features is its turbocharged SKYACTIV™-G 2.5T engine. It produces a hearty 310 lb-ft of torque from just 2,000 rpm. The engine is housed in a vehicle weighing approximately 250 lbs. less than its predecessor. The SKYACTIV™-G 2.5T helps CX-9 achieve a 25% improvement in combined EPA-estimated fuel economy versus its predecessor. Mazda CX-9 puts power to the ground via its predictive i-ACTIV all-wheel-drive system. It can adjust power output to each wheel more than 200 times per second to maintain optimum grip. Mazda’s i-ACTIV all-wheel drive integrates the functions of 27 sensors to accurately paint a picture of road conditions. This makes sure the driver and passengers feel secure even when road conditions become less than favorable. Signature Trim Level We also can’t leave out how Mazda introduced the new top Signature trim level on CX-9. This trim level further enhances the crossover beyond the previous top CX-9 Grand Touring trim level. On the Signature trim level, the Mazda CX-9 comes exclusively with Auburn-colored Nappa leather seating surfaces. It also features real aluminum whose design take its inspiration from Japanese swords. The rosewood interior trim comes from premium guitar maker Fujigen. Mazda CX-9 joins the compact Mazda3 sedan and hatchback and MX-5 Miata soft top and MX-5 RF retractable fastback as 2017 Car and Driver awardees. The 2016 Mazda CX-9 wins! Mazda recently announced some pretty awesome news about the 2016 Mazda CX-9! more Back in October, the Mazda CX-9 competed in the annual Texas Truck Rodeo. The Texas Truck Rodeo is a yearly event put on by the Texas Auto Writers Association. Over 70 automotive journalists from across the country met at the Longhorn River Ranch in Dripping Springs, Texas. It was a two day event. Over 70 vehicles competed for the top honors. The judges were so impressed with the CX-9, they honored it with the top prize in the full-size CUV segment. We think that’s some really great news! Complements Nic Phillips, who is the Texas Auto Writers Association President, has this to say about it: “Mazda’s all-new CX-9 earned class-leading marks from our judges particularly in exterior styling, premium interior finishes, the performance of the new SKYACTIV™-G 2.5T powertrain and overall personal appeal in the highly competitive full-size CUV category,” He continued by saying “Mazda’s CX-9 is a combination of sleek style with exciting, driver rewarding dynamics and family efficiency which makes for an award winning package, one that carried the CX-9 to be our runner-up for the overall CUV of Texas award.” Ten Years It’s been ten years since the Mazda CX-9 was introduced. It was announced that two Mazda vehicles have won two more awards! Mazda’s stunning rotary-powered sports car concept, the Mazda RX-VISION, recently won the “Most Beautiful Concept Car of the Year” award at the 31st Festival Automobile International. more Ikuo Maeda, Mazda’s international design chief, accepted the award alongside of Kevin Rice, Mazda’s European design director, Julien Montousse, his counterpart at Mazda North America, and Mazda designer Norihito Iwao. The “Most Beautiful Concept Car of the Year” is just another honor for Mazda’s global design division. The team also took home three prizes last September. That was at the Automotive Brand Contest. They received the prestigious “2015 Team of the Year” award. The RX-VISION was nominated this year along with the Bentley Exp10 Speed 6, Peugeot Fractal, and Porsche Mission E. Mazda’s concept shared the podium with the latter. The Mazda RX-Vision was unveiled at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show this past November. The Mazda RX-VISION concept demonstrates Mazda’s challenger spirit. The company’s latest concept car is a truly impressive interpretation of its KODO: Soul of Motion design philosophy. The smooth-flowing proportions roar of performance while paying tribute to Mazda’s rich heritage of front engine, rear-wheel drive sports cars. Indeed, the rotary powertrain’s compactness makes traits like the low bonnet possible. Mazda fans are eager to see this creation go into production. We’re excited!
