Mazda MX-5 Miata Named Car of the Year!

Mazda Motor Corporation has announced that the all-new Mazda MX-5 Miata Roadster has been named 2015-2016 Car of the Year by the Japan Automotive Hall of Fame (JAHFA). An award ceremony was held recently at Mazda’s Tokyo office. Roadster is the third Mazda to win the award following the Mazda RX-8 which took the honor in 2003. more JAHFA’s judges praised the all-new Mazda MX-5 Miata Roadster for its sophisticated open-top sports car design and advanced SKYACTIV™® TECHNOLOGY. They also noted the outstanding driving performance and fuel efficiency the model exhibits thanks to its lightweight yet highly rigid body. The all-new Mazda MX-5 Miata Roadster is the sixth model in Mazda’s new-generation lineup of vehicles featuring the full range of SKYACTIV™® TECHNOLOGY and KODO-Soul of Motion design. This lightweight open-top two-seater front-engine rear-wheel drive sports car is designed to provide pure Jinba-ittai driving fun. In redesigning the model Mazda concentrated on stimulating the senses and sensations through which people enjoy cars at a deeper level than ever before. Also, in redesigning the Mazda MX-5 Miata, Mazda aimed to further deepen the experience of driving fun and managed to both perfect the driving position and reduce the weight of the car by over 100 kilograms. While ensuring that the Mazda MX-5 Miata would remain a true driver’s car, Mazda engineers were determined to make the vehicle practical enough for daily use, adopting a weatherproof, easy-to-open-and-close top and ensuring enough space in the luggage compartment for two carry-on-sized bags. All passenger vehicles with an expected annual sales volume of over 500 units, announced or launched in Japan between October 1, 2014 and October 31, 2015 are eligible for this year’s Car of the Year Japan award. The Mazda MX-5 Miata Roadster follows the Mazda Mazda2 last year to become the sixth Mazda vehicle to take the Car of the Year award Japan. “Our Roadster represents everything we stand for in terms of our car-making philosophy, so we are delighted to have that recognized,” said Masamichi Kogai, President and CEO of Mazda. “Mazda will continue to build cars that brighten people’s lives. We aim to become a “one-and-only” brand for our customers, a brand they

Mazda Vehicle Community – Picture This!

If you’re not already addicted to Instagram, you might think that it’s only used to share pictures of pop-up burger joints and poolside selfies. However, the photo-sharing cell-phone app is actually a pretty handy way of staying social with the Mazda vehicle community and snapping some super-cool pictures of your beloved Mazda vehicle. To get involved, all you need to do is download the Instagram app onto your smartphone, pick a username and start populating your profile with pictures of your Mazda vehicle. Check out our handy guide  below to taking the very best pictures to post. There’s a range of filters and editing options available to make your pictures look (almost) professional. Plus you can tag up your images using the hashtag symbol (#) to ensure as many people as possible see your snaps. And, with over 300 Million active users on the app alone, that’s a lot of eyes! If that’s not enough, you can search and follow like-minded Instagrammers to see pictures of their cars, and search existing hashtags to get involved in the community. So, get snapping and sharing! Who know who will see your pictures… Better Pictures: The Zoom-Zoom Guide Frame your subject – Take time to square things up. Getting your horizon level really makes a difference and adds to a sense of balance. If you’re struggling to keep things straight, edit your picture after it’s been taken using the free leveling took in Instagram before uploading it. Check the background – When taking pictures and/or selfies with your Mazda vehicle, keep an eye on your background. You don’t want a tree or any other object sprouting out of your sunroof! Exposure – A camera can’t see light as well as your eyes can. Using an iPhone makes it easier to adjust the focal point of your picture. Just tap on the screen as you’re about to take your shot. If you’re taking a picture of a dark or light car this helps the smartphone camera to adjust. Light – Try to avoid shooting in the middle of the day as the sun can cast hard shadows on your image. The best time to photograph your car is the so-called “Golden Hour”. That is the precious 60 minutes before sundown. After that, the artificial light on the streets and in parking lots can be used to great effect. Creativity – Keep it fun and try a different take on the same theme. When you’re shooting your Mazda vehicle, try a close-up of as certain design feature. Or, totally change the look and feel of the photo by converting it to black and white. And don’t forget to tag the image with tags like #zoomzoommag #drivingmatters #mazdausa #mymazda #longlivetheroadster Don’t forget, Beach Mazda and Beach Automotive Group are also on Instagram! Tag us as well with #beachmazda or #beachautomotivegroup because we love to see our Mazda vehicle drivers enjoying their Mazda moments!

Mazda Miata

Mazda Miata – 1/2 Million (S)miles

Planes and trains are of little interest to Eddy Avol. But that doesn’t mean that the IT consultant from Rockland County, 40 minutes north of New York City, isn’t a fan of travel. He just prefers to do it by automobile, in his Mazda Miata. more “I’ve probably done over 20 cross-country road-trips, coast to coast trips in the last 20 years,” smiles Eddy. “In fact this year, I did an 8,500 mile round trip to Southern California, then up to Oregon, then back to New York. It was fun.” A large ingredient of the fun is undoubtedly Eddy’s car of choice: a white 1990 Mazda Miata NA. Bought new, the roadster now has an astonishing 448,000 miles on the clock. “It’s my only car, and I don’t commute in it and don’t take it out in the winters as I don’t to get any salt on the bodywork,” says Eddy. “I just take off, see the country via the back roads. It’s so good just to drive. Some people might say that’s a scary thing to do considering the distances I travel, but I trust my NA completely.” In 25 years of ownership, the white Mazda Miata has only let Eddy down once.  “The only time I’ve had a problem with the car was when I took out the stock fuel pump after 350,000 miles,” he says. “I figured after all that time the thing just wouldn’t last. but there was nothing wrong actually wrong with it. Replacing it was just preventative maintenance. So, I put in an aftermarket fuel pump, and a year later that failed!” he laughs. “The only time in a quarter of a century that I’ve needed a tow.” He replaced it with an original Mazda Miata part and hasn’t had a single problem since. Unsurprisingly, Eddy is in no hurry to get a new ride. “I’ve got absolutely no plans to replace it and I’ve definitely got to hit the magic 500,000 miles,” he adds. “Above all, I love this car and the people that I’ve met because of it. It’s just awesome! The clubs, the other owners, the whole social scene?buying a Mazda Miata is the best thing I ever did.”

Mazda Wins Corporate Communications Award

Mazda Motor Corporation was today awarded the Grand Prize for Corporate Communications in the 31st annual Corporate Communications Awards organized by Keizai Koho Center (Japanese Institute for Social and Economic Affairs). It is the first time the company has taken the prestigious Grand Prize. more The Corporate Communications Awards were founded by the Keizai Koho Center in 1984 with the aim of promoting corporate communications in Japan and each year it recognizes corporations, executives and workers for excellence in corporate communications. The Grand Prize awarded to Mazda this year is given to corporations that contribute to society by understanding societal expectations and reflecting them into their business practices while accurately communicating with stakeholders regarding their activities. Below is an excerpt from Keizai Koho Center’s media briefing materials outlining the reasons Mazda was chosen to receive the award. “From their headquarters in Hiroshima, Mazda is speaking to a global audience. Their communication activities are strategic, emphasizing their unique SKYACTIV™® TECHNOLOGY and KODO-Soul of Motion design, and expressing the philosophy behind them in “a story that reveals the heart.” Mazda is taking a consistent, company-wide approach to communications internally as well, promoting a philosophy which stresses “your work is not done until you can communicate it.” Public perception regarding Mazda’s cars has improved dramatically, and the company is gaining an image as a brand that makes appealing cars that stand out from the crowd. Also important is the role they have played in post-war Hiroshima, both economically and culturally, including their support of the local professional football and baseball teams, despite going through periods of difficulty themselves. “It is an honor to receive this prestigious award with such a long history,” said Masamichi Kogai, Mazda’s Representative Director, President and CEO. “I believe this award recognizes the steady company-wide efforts we have made to communicate the thinking behind Mazda’s products and manufacturing as well as our corporate personality. And the achievement can only be attributed to the support of our stakeholders, such as the media who are interested in our activities and frequently report them, as well as all devoted Mazda owners. Taking encouragement from this award, Mazda will continue to work hard to use communications as a tool to create empathy between Mazda and its customers at a variety of touchpoints, aiming to become a brand that builds a special bond with our stakeholders.”

Mazda RX Vision

SKYACTIV™-R and the Mazda RX-VISION

Powered by next-generation rotary engine SKYACTIV™®-R, the Mazda RX-VISION represents Mazda’s vision of the future. more Mazda Motor Corporation unveiled the rotary-powered Mazda RX-VISION sports car concept at the Tokyo Motor Show recently The rotary engine is a symbol of the company’s “never-stop-challenging” spirit. Mazda RX-VISION represents a vision of the future that Mazda hopes to one day make into reality; a front-engine, rear-wheel drive sports car with exquisite, KODO design-based proportions only Mazda could envision, and powered by the next-generation SKYACTIV™®-R rotary engine. Rotary engines feature a unique construction, generating power through the rotational motion of a triangular rotor. Overcoming numerous technical difficulties, Mazda succeeded in commercializing the rotary engine, fitting it in the Cosmo Sport (known as Mazda 110S overseas) in 1967. As the only automaker to mass-produce the rotary engine, Mazda continued efforts to improve power output, fuel economy and durability, and in 1991 took overall victory at 24 Hours of Le Mans with a rotary engine-powered race car. Over the years, the rotary engine has come to symbolize Mazda’s creativity and tireless endeavor in the face of difficult challenges. While mass production is currently on hold, Mazda has never stopped research and development efforts towards the rotary engine. The next rotary engine has been named SKYACTIV™®-R, expressing the company’s determination to take on challenges with convention-defying aspirations and the latest technology, just as it did when developing SKYACTIV™®and SKYACTIV™®-R TECHNOLOGY. “I look forward to talking with you more about this vision we have revealed here today at the Mazda stand,” said Mazda’s Representative Director, President and CEO, Masamichi Kogai. “Mazda will continue to take on new challenges in an effort to build a special bond with our customers and become their ‘one and only’ brand.” In line with the company’s theme for the Tokyo Motor Show this year, “Accelerate toward our dreams,” Mazda will make an appeal for the brand’s unique approach to driving pleasure. In addition to the sports car concept, Mazda KOERU will be on display along with new-generation models featuring SKYACTIV™®-R Technologies and KODO-Soul of Motion design. A motor sports exhibit will feature racing-spec Roadsters and the Cosmo Sport will compliment a heritage display showing Mazda ‘s history of convention-defying engineering.

Mazda CX-3

Mazda CX-3 vs. Honda HR-V: Comparison

Car shoppers intrigued by small-but-smart packaging, economical engines, and a low price of entry will have two new options: Mazda CX-3 and The Honda HR-V. more Called compact SUVs by their makers, in reality, these vehicles are more like tall hatchbacks. They are stretched slightly from subcompact car donor platforms, with slightly more ground clearance and higher ride heights. Unveiled at the LA Auto Show, the Honda HR-V and Mazda CX-3 will both be available with all-wheel drive, and they will be priced around $20,000. The Mazda CX-3 is the lead vehicle for the next-generation Mazda2 platform, but should have a wider track, several more inches of wheelbase (101.2 inches) and as much as a foot more overall length (168.3 inches). The HR-V borrows from the Honda Fit platform, and will carry a 102.1-inch wheelbase and 169.1-inch overall length. Neither one has second-row seats that will make you many friends. The Honda’s second row has slightly better knee and foot room than the Mazda CX-3. However, the Honda’s cramped headroom will cause anyone taller than 5-foot-10 to slouch in their seat. Both the Honda and Mazda CX-3 have fold-flat rear seats, even though the Mazda seats are “almost” fold flat, as the second-row seats carry a slight inclined angle when folded. The Mazda CX-3 looks swoopy and fast, with a surprisingly long hood line for such a small vehicle. It has clear design lineage to the impressive Mazda CX-5. The Honda is more upright, with its creased sheet metal giving it a robotic expression. The North American Mazda CX-3 will only be offered with a 155-hp, 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. On paper, the HR-V engine falls short, since it’s just a 138-hp, 1.8-liter four-cylinder. It does provide a choice of a continuously variable transmission (CVT) or a six-speed manual, available in front-drive form only. Inside, the Mazda CX-3 doesn’t feel like an entry-level crossover. The plastics and fabrics are of a high grade and rewarding to the touch. The styling of the gauges, knobs, and buttons are a distinguishing blend of high-tech and Steampunk. The Honda plastics are a bit more, well, plastic-like. The gauge cluster styling is futuristic in appearance. Mazda executives claim that the Mazda CX-3 will be the most dynamically exciting vehicle in the segment, and we’re sure that you’ll think the Mazda CX-3 will be dynamic and exciting too. Come see for yourself at Beach Mazda! We’ll be awaiting your arrival!

Bike by KODO

Mazda keeps winning awards!

Mazda Motor Corporation announced recently that the company received three awards in the Automotive Brand Contest. The company’s global design team, Mazda CX-3 and Bike by KODO concept were honored at an award ceremony at the Städel Museum in Frankfurt on September 15. The prestigious Automotive Brand Contest honors outstanding product and communication design. Sponsored by the German Design Council, the annual contest has 15 regular and four special award categories. Winners in each category are selected by a jury of journalists and experts in design and communications. Mazda’s global design team received the Team of the Year award, which is presented for “innovative and consistent brand design.” With design studios in Japan, the U.S. and Germany, the team has created energetic and dynamic forms based on the KODO design theme that have found expression throughout the entire Mazda line-up in recent years. A member of the German Design Council said, “Unlike other companies’ design strategy is not supposed to define a form language, and so Maeda always encourages his designers to propose something that would exceed his expectations. That is why each of current generation Mazda cars can have its own character while consistently expressing lively motion.” The Mazda CX-3, a compact crossover SUV that went on sale this year, was named Best of the Best in the Exterior Volume Brand category, while the Bike by KODO Concept track racer displayed during Milan Design Week in April was recognized in the Parts & Accessories category. “We are very excited about the awards presented to the CX-3, the Bike by KODO Concept and especially our Global Design Team,” said Ikuo Maeda, Executive Officer and Design Chief of Mazda’s Design Division. “The entire team will continue to work to create dynamic and energetic designs that will excite our customers.”

Driving Matters

Driving Matters – The Joy of Driving

Driving Matters – New Campaign Communicates How the Joy of Driving Can Enhance Your Life The Oxford Dictionary defines “driving” as, “operating and controlling the direction and speed of a motor vehicle.” Mazda believes that driving is more than a definition. Driving is an experience that can enhance your life. To better illustrate how every Mazda vehicle embodies why “Driving Matters,” today Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) is rolling out a new advertising campaign. Driving Matters is an evolution of the Game Changers campaign. With Game Changers, Mazda succeeded in increasing consumer awareness of the functional attributes of our vehicles. Driving Matters will extend the message by creating an emotional connection to the brand. “Through the Driving Matters campaign, consumers will get a glimpse at why driving matters so much to Mazda and why we obsess over every detail in designing our cars,” said Russell Wager, vice president of marketing, MNAO. “Whether it’s for safety purposes or for maintaining our ‘fun to drive’ nature, it all comes down to the fact that driving matters to our customers and it matters to us.” Mazda’s all-new Driving Matters campaign will showcase various aspects of what makes the driving experience so important. Through Mazda’s advanced technologies and design, the campaign will dive into the importance of vehicle safety, good-looks, fuel efficiency and the fun-to- drive personality of Mazda cars. The engineering and design that goes behind each car in Mazda’s lineup epitomizes the enhancement driving has on a person’s life. The campaign will launch with “A Driver’s Life,” which chronicles the major moments and life stages in a driver’s life, like getting a license and buying your first car, through raising a family and obtaining your “reward” car. The spot will feature multiple 2016 models but the aim is to celebrate driving and the core values of Mazda customers.  The campaign will launch on Friday May 22nd in cinema and television with a mixture of a :60 and :30 second ads.  It will be supported digitally and on our social channels. “Mazda makes cars for people who take pleasure in driving, and “Driving Matters” perfectly aligns with that philosophy. Through our creative process, it became evident that Mazda’s inspiration for pure driving enjoyment is something that relates to the typical car buyer,” said Harvey Marco, creative director, Garage Team Mazda.

WyoTech

WyoTech, Mazda Partner to Train Next-Gen Auto Techs

Mazda North American Operations (MNAO) today announced a three-year partnership with WyoTech, one of the country’s premier technical training institutes, which will allow students to graduate as certified Mazda technicians. WyoTech is part of Zenith Education Group (Zenith), a system of nonprofit career colleges. Mazda will also use WyoTech’s state-of-the-art training facilities in Blairsville, Pa. and Laramie, Wyo. to train its top dealership personnel on advanced courses throughout the year. The classes, which are offered at no charge, began last month. “Well-trained technicians are a key component to our customer’s satisfaction, so it is an honor to partner with WyoTech,” said Jim O’Sullivan, president and CEO, MNAO. “Mazda is focused on improving the dealership experience and fixing customers’ cars right, the first time. We look forward to this WyoTech program supporting these initiatives and helping make top-tier technicians available to Mazda customers.” The Mazda certification course offers a curriculum of web-based modules supplemented by instructor-led classes. To support the program, Mazda has donated more than 20 vehicles, specialized tooling and equipment, in addition to several current model year vehicles rotated out annually for current year technology. “It is a privilege to partner with Mazda in offering our students a valuable opportunity to earn in-demand skills and graduate as certified Mazda technicians,” said Karen Turner, senior vice president of student success for Zenith. “Our top priority is ensuring that our students have a clear path to in-demand careers with definitive labor market value and the opportunity for advancement. We recognize that our graduates’ career prospects are considerably enhanced by working directly with the employers who hire them. By working with Mazda and its dealerships, we are able to accurately assess local workforce needs and help match our certified graduates with those job opportunities.” WyoTech’s Blairsville and Laramie student populations come from all across the country and, through this new program, they will have access to Mazda’s U.S. network of more than 640 dealerships as they seek employment. Mazda has estimated that its dealers will hire about 100 certified graduates from each campus location annually as entry-level technicians. For each pre-certified graduate a Mazda dealership hires, it saves roughly $6,000 that it would otherwise spend sending a new employee through required courses and training. Beyond graduation, WyoTech alumni employed by Mazda dealerships will have the opportunity to continue their career development and pursue Master Technician certification through the dealership and existing Mazda Training Centers. Mazda trainers will work at the Laramie and Blairsville campuses approximately 12 times per year to conduct advanced training courses using WyoTech’s first-rate facilities. These courses are open to existing dealership personnel first, with any remaining spots made available to qualified WyoTech students in the Mazda program.
