What To Expect for the 2026 Model: 

Size & Packaging

• The 2026 model is 4.5 inches longer overall than the 2025 model and also boasts a 4.5-inch longer wheelbase, while being a bit over 0.5 inch wider. 
• Door openings are larger, which should help with entry and exit, especially for rear passengers. 
• The cargo area is reworked: the floor is longer and deeper, and the lift-over height is lower, making loading easier. 

Exterior & Styling

• The new CX-5 adopts an evolved version of Mazda’s Kodo design, with more sculpted surfaces and updated proportions. 
• The grille is broader and more dominant, and the headlights are slimmer, with a stacked arrangement (versus the older horizontal layout) 
• At the rear, the classic Mazda logo is replaced by full “MAZDA” lettering across the tailgate, aligning with the styling of Mazda’s larger crossovers (like the CX-90) 
• Wheel arch cladding and lower body accents reflect a new “wearable gear” aesthetic, drawing inspiration from Japanese woodworking styles like “Kigumi.” 

Interior & Technology

• Inside, software and minimalism take center stage: physical buttons, knobs, and even a traditional infotainment rotary controller are largely eliminated. Control is handled mainly by touchscreens. 
• The centerpiece is a 15.6-inch touchscreen (largest ever in a Mazda) with integrated Google services (Maps, Play, Assistant). 
• A digital instrument cluster is still used. 
• Soft-touch materials and upscale finishes are expanded throughout more cabin surfaces, and ambient lighting is available in multiple tones. 
• Comfort and space are improved: rear-seat legroom, headroom, and knee clearance are all enhanced due to the extra length and width. 

Powertrain & Driving

• Mazda has not yet confirmed the optional turbocharged 2.5L engine (which earlier produced ~256 hp)
• The naturally aspirated 2.5L SkyActiv-G remains and is standard, now tuned for refined response, and is paired with a 6-speed automatic and all-wheel drive as standard. 
• Mazda intends to introduce a hybrid version (called “SkyActiv-Z” or similar) in 2027. 
• In markets outside the U.S., mild hybrid tech (24V) may be integrated alongside the 2.5L engine.
